Specific Duties:
1. Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules
and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation of the State
Board of Education and the Lyon County Board of Education. This includes, but is not
limited to 702 KAR 5:080 bus drivers responsibility.
2. Calculate time in order to schedule properly all stops on a route, special events and field
trips.
3. Contact the Transportation Coordinator when a substitute driver is needed in sufficient
time to cover the run.
4. Submit the appropriate leave card during absence due to illness etc.
5. Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections
and driver maintenance including cleaning windows, mirrors and bus interior and report
any mechanical defects and/or malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
6. Keep bus consistently clean to help insure student physical and health wellbeing.
7. Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus following district policies and
procedures. Contact school officials and/or parents regarding questions or concerns
about disputes.
8. Report all accidents or moving violations immediately to the office of the Transportation
Coordinator.
9. Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven and number of children
transported; prepare student conduct, incident and accident reports.
10. Transport physically handicapped and mentally handicapped children to and from
designated locations; lift and secure wheel chairs; assist in the loading and unloading of
handicapped children as necessary.
11. Make no changes in the route or time unless authorized by the Transportation
Coordinator and/or a Driver Training Instructor.
12. Attend safety and preventive emergency meetings when required.
13. Utilize two-way radio for bus to bus and bus to base communication in a professional
manner.
14. Perform first aid according to established guidelines and procedures.
15. Notify the Transportation Coordinator of all unsafe stop locations. (Drivers and
Transportation Coordinator will work together to change a location if the stop is
unsafe.)
16. Let students off only at designated stops, except during inclement weather. The driver
may then let students off close to their homes or return the child to school. If needed,
contact parents when direct home pickup is not possible due to weather/ road
conditions.
17. Receive proper certification as needed and keep abreast of any new changes in
transportation policies and laws. Receive an annual physical examination.
18. Inform and practice with children school bus safety and emergency evacuation drills;
supervise all emergency situations and oversee general safety of children.
19. Sign a contract with the board of education each year employed with a copy returned
for file at the board office.
20. Maintain contact with parents as needed.
21. Cell phone use while driving is prohibited.
22. Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator and/or the
Superintendent. |
